Step-by-Step: How to Apply

    Request a Budgeting Advance via your online Universal Credit journal or call the UC helpline.

    Explain what the money is for (e.g. buying a washing machine, work clothes, home repairs).

  3. 3

    If approved, repayments are automatically deducted from your future monthly Universal Credit payments over up to 24 months.

If a Budgeting Advance is unavailable or insufficient, your local council can provide non-repayable grants or emergency food/fuel vouchers through the Household Support Fund.
