If using a funeral director, you do not need to apply yourself—the burial provider, crematorium, or funeral director claims costs directly from the government.
If not using a funeral director, claims for eligible expenses (such as coffins or caskets) can be submitted directly via GOV.UK.
Claims must be made within 6 months of the date of the funeral.
Local councils across England waive their own burial and cremation fees for children under 18 alongside the Children's Funeral Fund.
A payment to help cover the costs of a funeral if you receive certain low-income or disability benefits.
