Barnsley Council says the Crisis and Resilience Fund replaced the Household Support Fund and Discretionary Housing Payments on 1 April 2026. A Crisis Payment is a short-term award for people facing immediate financial hardship who cannot meet essential living needs, covering food and basic living essentials, essential household items such as a cooker or fridge, essential utilities, priority or emergency debt and essential transport for work, health or caring responsibilities. The council says residents must first seek support from Community First Credit Union unless the crisis is due to a disaster or heating-oil hardship.
